Jam Web Co

Hire Jam for Code, Content and Creative

Currently available for contract and full time work as a Full Stack Creative Web Engineer & Advocate

I've been on the internet cutting up code since the early days of dial-up, contributing toward projects for teams both small and large.

I’m a full-stack design engineer with over a decade of direct web experience. I help small to medium sized teams design, build, optimize, and integrate complex web based software using industry standards. On the side, I also create media and share content.

I work to make the web better. My goal is to help folks find, connect with, and produce their own value on the internet, while also making the platform easier and safer for everyone to be a part of.

My Approach

Working with me is straightforward! I take my business activities seriously and strive for transparency as a professional. In practice this means I keep good records, document my processes, and work with software you can trust. Clear communication is the cornerstone of my business practice. I aim to make my processes transparent through documentation, my websites, and through the project artifacts we co-create together along the way.

As a web developer, I advocate for creating web and mobile experiences that are fast, responsive, and accessible to all users. My focus is on building components that not only meet user needs, but also adhere to standards and accessibility requirements.

Unless we confirm otherwise, I design on the front-end with a range of devices and user needs in mind, ensuring that we consider desktop, mobile, and accessibility requirements. This also means considering the semantics of our HTML, using appropriate CSS styles, and including JavaScript functionality as needed.

A good web developer can help you make sense of your requirements while delivering on results. If you’re looking for a someone dedicated who prioritizes clarity and commitment, let’s connect.

My Services

So what does a “Jam Web Company” actually do? I work on, build for, talk about, and help folks navigate “the web”. I’d broadly categorize my services under the following umbrellas:

  • Code (full-stack engineering): Writing code to achieve specific functionality or design goals. Building websites and apps. Implementation of features. Integrating third party platforms and data stores. Custom widgets. Command line tools. Authentication. Services. JavaScript. Typescript. (and much more)
  • Creative (design): Wireframes, User Journey Mapping, Components (molecules) through full interface (organism) design. Creative Assets. Illustration.
  • Content: Technical documentation, walkthroughs, training resources. Mentorship. Streaming. Video editing and production.

Contract Work

For limited engagements, one time projects and the like, I’m always excited to offer my service as a freelance professional developer, creative and educator.

Web work comes with differing requirements. Every project is unique! The best projects begin with a conversation about goals rather than specific technologies. I’m happy to guide you through options that make sense for your needs.

If you’ve already got a clear plan then definitely send me your request! Even if you don’t though, you can still reach out if you think you might need some engineering or creative help on the web. I love chatting web projects and might be able to help you navigate options.

Here are some useful details folks are typically curious about:

  • Important communications are all relayed over email. I’ll often also establish a secondary channel for chat discussions. And of course, we can have voice and/or video calls anytime.
  • Most of the time I offer fixed, value based pricing for projects. This means we’ll agree to a scope and fee structure before I actually start into any work on your behalf. Assuming scope doesn’t change, this price is fixed.
  • (Of course, as an independent I can always be flexible. Other arrangements like hourly billing, maintenance, and retainer agreements can also be explored by request.)
  • Estimates are accompanied with a proposal document that outlines the scope, suggested acceptance criteria, and expected time-frames.
  • If you agree to the proposal, I ask for a small deposit. The deposit is later applied automatically against our final invoice.
  • Larger projects are usually delivered in increments, creating opportunities for feedback along the way. At the end of each increment you get to sign off on the latest changes.
  • I use Adobe’s secure pdf platform for sharing contracts and forms, ensuring both sides receive authentic copies.
  • Revisions to bring deliverables closer in line with existing accepted criteria are generally free of charge, within reason.
  • Work is invoiced (through Quickbooks) at the end of each increment after any deliverables have been provided.
  • Standard payment terms are 2/10 net 30. You get a small 2% discount when paying in full in under 10 days, and otherwise have up to 30 days (one calendar month) to pay.
  • Payments can be submitted online anytime, paid by credit card or money transfer. You should receive a receipt automatically. :)

Full or Part Time Roles

If you like what I do and think I could be a good fit ON your team, please reach out! I’m open to certain part-time or full-time roles as part of an established team again. I’m mostly interested in small to medium sized companies that operate online, work remotely, and are values driven. I’d make a good fit for any Front-End or Full-Stack JavaScript role.

In the meantime, there’s no shortage of cool web stuff to build. Jam Web Co will continue independently through my content and creative. As long as I have a computer and a connection, I’ll be here: slingin’ div’s, sending requests, styling inputs, and building services! I’m always excited to learn something new. Hopefully we get to collaborate!
